Callum is One

A lot has happened since the last blog update in April…

In May (19th) Callum started clapping his hands lots. He also started cruising around all the furniture in those first attempts to walk. He is taller than Bethany was at a similar age which means that kitchen counters are a target area, along with the dining room table. I managed to catch Bethany’s table mat just before the mat, juice and spag bog landed on Callum and on the floor!

On June 6th we all headed to France for a weeks summer holiday! Despite the rainy weather for the majority of the week we had a lovely time. We met up with friends so Bethany had a playmate for much of the holiday. Everyday had a swimming session; Bethany’s confidence continues to grow and she quite often abandons the woggle to swim under water. It’s slightly scary because she can’t quite lift her head out to grab a breath. Callum managed to swim by himself on the woggle and loved splashing around. He has started blowing bubbles in the bath (13th July), which is something they try and encourage at swimming lessons!

When we got back from France, Callum started show real signs that walking was definitely on his agenda (as if crawling wasn’t causing enough havoc!). On 17th June he stood unaided for about 3 seconds! This morning, as part of Callum’s birthday celebrations we went to a soft play place in Tilehurst and he took 4 steps unaided – needless to say we were very excited with that milestoneJ

At the beginning of July (1st) Callum suddenly became more dextrous and managed to stack his stacking cups into a tower (obviously enjoying knocking it down more than building it!). He also managed to put all of the hoops onto the peg.
Callum has also started chatting away with definite MaMa and PaPa noises (15th July).

To make the most of my last weekend before returning to work 3 days a week we had a lovely trip to Odds Farm, a farm park nearby. They both loved it…there were lots of animals to stroke, tractors to sit on and a sheep race!! Daddy’s sheep won so Bethany got a badge!

The whole returning to work has been a little traumatic for all of us. Dropping the kiddies off at nursery after having them both at home with me for just over a year was really hard. They are both beginning to settle in now and I am slowly finding my feet at work.

I can’t believe that Callum is now one… We have had a lovely day celebrating. Callum got so many lovely presents that Bethany was lucky enough to open and play with! This afternoon we had some friends around for a little birthday picnic (on the lounge floor). You know you’re getting old when Friday nights are spent making children’s birthday cakes and preparing party sandwiches!

Bethany continues to grow up rapidly.. she is quite the little two year old. Generally very helpful and desperate to do everything herself., but every now and again she displays very perfected terrible two tantrums! We really enjoyed playing outside in the garden lots (before the weather turned wintery!) Bethany managed to blow lots of bubbles herself and pedal her tricycle all ‘by myself!’ B is very good at entertaining herself and spend hours playing with her dolls and teddies having tea parties, or dressing up and taking lots of bags because she’s going shopping! She has taken to calling the summer house her own house and the windows have been washed over and over again!
