5 weeks old!

I can’t believe Callum is now 5 weeks old, despite being permanently tired its been an amazing month.

Callum is growing rapidly, he’s very long and is beginning to fill out – certainly not a new born baby anymore. He is becoming much more alert and is definitely smiling now – that hint of recognition is so rewarding. His frequent bowel movements and explosive farts are less rewarding but would make a grown man proud!

Callum attended his first wedding on 23rd August. Ian and Melissa celebrated their big day with a service in St Mary’s church, Fairford and the reception at Cripps Barn. It was a fantastic day.

Bethany continues to show affection most of the time (unless she’s tired) but affection can take the form of mild chest compressions or strong bear hugs around his neck…. Slightly scary to witness, but it is great that she is so fond of the young man. Every morning she insists on having a cuddle with ‘Baby’ (she hasn’t mastered ‘Callum’ yet!) and we read the same story all together – I think I’ll suggest a new book next week, its always worrying when you know all the words!

Bethany’s speech is developing rapidly, her vocabulary has grown a lot and it is interesting to hear her master a sound…words starting with B are definitely favourites… Baby, Boy, Bump, Bus, Bike, Bath , Burp

Other words that are established in the Bethany vocab are (this is a list to assist my memory really!)
Park, walk, down, ‘oh no’, eat, more, apple, banana, jelly, cat, woof, moo, chick, ‘brum, brum’, ‘choo choo’, truck, poo, yes, please, ta, cheers, Mummy’s, Daddy’s (always with the s at the end!), biscuit, jump.

She is also starting to link a few words… ‘I did jump.’. ‘What’s this?’, ‘Who’s this?’, ‘Baby eat more’.

Bethany has been a busy bee as always - Activities over the last few weeks have included lots of trips to the park, a trip to the beach, swimming with Daddy, doing jigsaws, drawing and painting, however the last painting session became rather eventful!!!!! Despite fooling all of the grandparents that she is permanently a poppet, Bethany had her first full scale tantrum last week… 30 mins later tranquility graced the house again, but it was an amusing half an hour!

Following the tantrum and a number of other incidents we now have a naughty spot in the porch, however I’m not sure how effective this is given that two nights ago Bethany wanted me to put her in the porch and then told me to shut the door!! Yesterday she spent 20 mins playing with her toy dog and putting him on the naughty spot!!!

I'll post a few more photos tomorrow. (Check out the picture of the ball pit... I was trying to teach Bethany colours, neither of us have developed OCD!)
